Term One

WEEK ONE:

Wednesday 9th September - First day back! After a long break, we are finally back, today we got to meet all of the new year ones. We started off by going over basic health and safety rules. We then had a demonstration from Dan and Amy of how to rig and de-rig the light again. After this we were paired with a year one and we took it in turns putting the ladder up de-rigging the light, re-rigging the light and then taking down the ladder. This was fun, as we haven't done in a while. Once this was finished we went to break. We then filled out our enrollment forms and had a one to one with Mel. This was really helped me as it maped out what we wanted to achieve in the year and what we wanted to specialize in. In the afternoon we had a talk with our principal, once this had finished we spoke to Mel about general bits and bobs before finishing for the day. After lunch we were all paired up with a year one in our seating plan. I think this works well as we get a chance to help the year two's (even if we were looking forward to the top dog table).

Thursday 10th September - Throughout the morning we started studying Alice, this is the play we are using for our unit 9. I have chosen to select costume and makeup for this. We created a mind map as the start of our research to begin making some decisions. In the afternoon, we done some different makeup bits. We used algiate to create a fake finger which we then painted to make it look realistic. This was very fun however i'm not too happy with the outcome, We are doing it again next week however, so I can improve then. Overall it was a good and productive day.

WEEK TWO:

Tuesday 15th September - Today we had two meetings via teams. It stated with an IT session with Mel we were able to logon say hello be given the task of our blogs and then get on. We came away from the meeting to be able to do so. Whilst this happened and we started our blogs we found it beneficial for us girls to be on call to each other. So me, Amy, Molly and Liz were all on call whilst we done our websites. It meant we could all support each other and talk about what we done throughout the week. The second session we had was with Amy. She walked us through unit ten and the UCAS website. We looked at some different courses and she showed us how to find the key information.

Wednesday 16th September - We started the day in the theatre, after the year ones had finished their health and safety tasks, we had to help out with some bits that needed doing in the theatre. However before this, everyone went up the Scaff tower in pairs. I went up with Ava. I forgot how high it was up there! Once everyone ad completed this the year ones went to do some more costume bits. Whilst they done this we started the jobs. I started with sorting out some cables that were hanging as a safety issue from the bar. we taped them back into place then moved on to the next task. We needed to take the mics down. This is a long winded task you have to keep going up and down and moving over slightly to un wind the cable from the bar. However eventually me and Liz were able to get it down and unplugged. After break We stated our sewing tasks. Firstly, we thread the machine and then began the basic stitches, a running stich, a zig zag stich and a hem stitch. I chose to showcase these through the form of a phone bag thing. It was very strange and started out as a joke however ended up being useful and clever. I used the running stich around both pieces of material and turned it inside out. After this i hemmed the top part so it was neater. I then sewed smaller pieces of material together to make a long strap attached this using a running stitch. I then used a zig zag stitch other both sides of the strap to seal it so it wouldn't fray. In the afternoon we done some more Alice work, this included highlighting all of our lines then I started on my character development sheet. Overall it was a very productive day and I enjoyed being able to do more work in the theatre that for me felt useful.

Thursday 17th September - Today was a pretty basic day, Mel was ill so we had Sue covering in the morning and Jamie and Georgia in the afternoon. Throughout the period we had with sue we completed the Alice readthrough. The character I was reading for was Alice. This was a very useful read through that will help us with both the mining the text task and the character development task. In the session we had with Jamie was had the opportunity to get Alice work done. For me I completed my Character development task. Once I had completed this I started looking at my set design and cost comparison for something as basic as the rug. I looked on four different websites at different shapes sizes and materials and made a list of the prices so I would be able to compare. I actually really enjoyed doing this as I felt like I was some kind of bargain hunter, overall this session was very helpful. The final session we had was with Georgia. In this session me, Liz, Amy, and Molly were able to go in the art room and continue with the mural process. We started sketching ideas out on the whiteboard and made some final decisions about what we was going to put on there. I enjoyed this session the most as it gave us the opportunity to be creative.

WEEK THREE:

Tuesday 22nd September - Today we had two virtual sessions again. The first being with Mel, this was very basic as we were just doing our websites, then before we left the meeting she had a quick check in with us all to check everything was going ok. Once this session had finished we had one with Amy. We discussed our university options and looked at the student reviews for them, once this was completed we then ranked the chosen universities from our favorite to least favorite. This was a helpful lesson as we got to visit a website that was really helpful in giving you an insight into the students opinion of the university.

Wednesday 23rd September - We started today with a lighting workshop with Jamie. We learnt about fixtures, patching, and grouping. This was really helpful as I had no prior knowledge about lighting, I wouldn't have even been able to tell you where the on switch was. So doing this workshop really helped me to understand what I needed to know and have a basic understanding of how patching and grouping works. After this workshop we had a sewing one. We completed more sample pieces and patches to we could demonstrate our extended knowledge. This included pleating, the jean stitch and sewing a button on by hand. This was very helpful as it gave me and opportunity to refresh my memory around the subject. The final thing we done today was makeup. This included Latex building and tattoo covering. For the latex building we had to layer up layers of latex, starting so it blended into the skin on the edges and had more of a bump in the middle. I then cut through the middle and added blood and foundation so everything looked more realistic. For the tattoo covering I needed to mix two colours together to match Mel's tone, but before this we outlined the tattoo with the shade D35, this helps even out the tone, I then powdered this. Once this step was complete I added the foundation colour and blended it into her skin tone, and then powdered again and that was it. I enjoyed doing the makeup in this session as I always do.

Thursday 24th September - We started today with Alice work this included designing for me. I created my first draft of a makeup design and annotated it with how I wanted everything to be. I then started my character development sheet. In the afternoon we then continued with the mural in the art room. Liz began drawing upon the wall with some ideas, whilst we done some more clearing away and moved things out into the shed. We also cleaned everything down and organized some cupboards. Once we did this we started to expand on our ideas list and narrow things down to what we wanted exactly on the wall. So far we have a series of lights across the top that are going to beam down the way, however in the place of one of the lights in the white rabbit from Alice in wonderland. He is upside down and it looks like his head is peeping down from the ceiling. Overall it was a fun day where we achieved a lot.

WEEK FOUR:

Tuesday 29th September - Like most weeks we started with a catch up with Mel, she checked in on everyone and then we logged out and completed our websites, we then logged on again at the end so she could check everything went ok and then we went on break for 15 minutes before logging on to Amy's session. In this session we looked at how to write our personal statements. Unfortunately for me my WIFI played up really bad and I was in and out the session due to the technical difficulties this meant that I missed a lot of the session.

Wednesday 30th September: Today we started out with a lighting workshop with Jamie. We looked at colour palettes and how to get the colour you want and how to then save this. We also then started looking at how to create a lighting plan. For me I brought the LED'S lights up in nine seconds as the colour green. We then learnt about tracking, however this really confused me and I didn't understand it. So I would like to be able to go over this again. In the afternoon me and lix both worked on our corsets', we managed to cut out all of the material, lining and inter-facing ready for the pinning stage. After this was done I gave my presentation. I feel that this went really well and based on the feedback I got from my peers it did.

Thursday 1st October: Today we started the day with written work, however because of going into isolation I continues with my corset. This would allow me to get to a stage that I can take the corset home with me and complete more of the work in the two weeks of my absence. I done this for most of the day the process will be explained in the corset workshop on my Unit 9 page. Todays work on it was very difficult but I'm glad I pushed myself to do it. In the afternoon we did do some makeup work, I was with Hannah so she done and infected wound on my arm with Artex and I completed a serious blackening burn on her arm also with Artex. Overall today was difficult but it was interesting and fun.

WEEK FIVE:

Tuesday 6th October - Today was a bit of an odd day. my first virtual session with Mel was fine and everything went well I had plenty of time to complete my website and when we came back Mel gave me some feedback. I unfortunately was unable to attend the second session with Amy because I had technical issues. However, as a result I spent this session working on my Uni cost table. I found this challenging as I wasn't sure how to calculate a lot of my costs as a lot of them are circumstantial costs.

Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th - Due to self isolation I have not been physically in college this week. I have still completed practical work from home this includes designing several makeup looks and physically executing one. I have attached images of theses in my gallery. The designing aspect has been really fun and had me working hard and thinking outside of the box. When I excecated one of the designs I only did half a face however I used the time-lapse function on my phone to record what I was doing I will also attach these on my gallery. In the video you can see the process of what I was creating, I started with blocking out my eyebrow and I then went onto create the actual design.

WEEK SIX:

Tuesday 13th - Today we had our usual session with Mel doing our websites and then our second session with Amy. In this session I created my UCAS application and logged in. whilst this is still incomplete I know have one set up. I then spent the rest of the session creating my personal statement draft number one.

Wednesday 14th and Thursday 15th - This is my second week of isolation and I have created more designs including a body paint design. I have sewn my pieces of the corset together that was previously pinned together. Once this was done I then ironed it out and I am very happy with the way it looks. Whilst it is not yet finished and I still have a lot of work to do in it , I am very please with how it is coming along. I also completed my Uni-cost table and continues with my personal statement draft. Whilst it has been a restricting two weeks in terms of not being in college I still feel like I have achieved a lot.

WEEK 7 - TERM 2

Tuesday 20th - Today we had once again our usual IT session with Mel, after this we had an additional session with Mel rather than Amy. In this session we had to create a plan for how we would create a ten foot dragon that moved. Whilst set is not my first choice when it comes to these sort of tasks, I really enjoyed being able to push myself out of my comfort zone and try to figure out the answers to the questions.

Wednesday 21st - Today We created the dragons that we researched on Tuesday. So this included creating a detailed design, ad then executing it through a scaled down model. I used wire to make the outline of the wings in the scale of 1:30. I then used the glue gun to attach the calico to both sides. I enjoyed doing this a lot, even if I did slightly burn my fingers!

Thursday 22nd - Today I started with Alice work. For me this was preparing for my model box. I started with looking at the set I wanted and drawing out a set plan. I had to calculate the measurements for everything before I could scale it down and draw it.

I surprisingly enjoyed this task despite it being difficult. In the afternoon we has rehearsals with Sarah and her class. We were working through set and prop transitions with the actors and beginning to block out what was going to happen.

Friday 23rd - Today we had to come in for an additional day, because Sarah's actors had rehearsals. Today we looked at all of the tech side of things. We once again blocked the rest of the set and I marked everything up with tape today whilst Amy and Dan arranged lighting and sound. This was a long and draining day however it was important that it took place.

DID SOMEONE SAY ISOLATION? -  WEEK 8

That's right you read correctly, unfortunately there was a change of plans with the shows and isolation struck, but don't worry it isn't all doom and gloom as it sounds we still managed to have two amazing weeks packed with plenty of learning! The week started of as a ball, pardon the pun but we had to design a snowman. That's right three balls on top of each other made of whatever we wanted (within reason) and some structural support. This was a fun task I've never designed a snow man before! Day two was all everybody's talking about Jamie! I really enjoyed watching this show and would definitely be interested in seeing it in the future. so I definitely enjoyed this task! The following week consisted of both practical and theoretical work. We completed a task about the curious incident of the dog in the night time. I really enjoyed this task as it got me thinking deeper about lighting set sound etc., which are not things I usually enjoy being able to talk about. so I was very surprised that I enjoyed this as much as I did. The practical work we took part in was make-up for me. I created a look of a clown that had been hit on the head with a baseball bat. There was a large gapping hole wound on the top of my head whilst the rest of my face and neck was that of a clown. I was both pleased and not pleased with this look. Whilst the look looked great from afar and would be perfect for theatre work. Up close it looked patchy and messy which annoyed me as I didn't like that. That being said this was probably my favorite task of the week! All in all whilst it was a very different week to what I am used to I did really enjoy it!

WEEK 9

Wednesday 25th November - Today was a great day! It was so good to be back in the classroom working hard. I spent today mainly working on my model box. The first thing was to measure out my theatre. We used our scale of 1:30 to be able to make a perfect to scale representation. I then began making the features. This included the box I made to represent the audience. These will be several chairs back to back that were measured perfectly. I also made my flat that will sit on a truck that has wheels. These wheels will be made out of Femo and I will make these from home next week. I then made two tables. A small one and a larger one. This went really well. Although I found the cutting difficult I was able to glue everything together really well. We then painted certain parts on top of this as well.

Thursday 26th November - Today I made parts of a snowman! I cant say that I particularly enjoyed this. The first thing that I did today was create the pieces of the snowman. This included two eyes, A nose and two buttons. Theses were created from a thin foam that was easy to cut through and carve. I then mod rocked over the top so they could later be painted. I then started of with creating the base of the head of the snowman out of paper. I created the shape that I wanted before covering this with mod rock. I did the same for the middle part of the body as well, the rest will be finished by Hannah and Amy on Monday. Overall whilst today was a productive day for me and for Bryce who massively helped me, I did not enjoy it!

WEEK 10

Wednesday 2nd December - Today was another virtual session, However we done practical work for the initial part of the day. For the practical sessions today I decided to make the wheels and doorknobs that I needed out of Femo and get these done. I then decided to make a little norm (mini gnome) out of tinfoil and mod rock. I knew I needed to practice small and detailed prop making as it was something I struggled with a little bit. So, I started with the base of making the main base of the head and body out of tinfoil and molding them into the shape that I wanted them to be. I then covered both with mod rock and attached the two together also using mod rock. I then made the small details for example the arms legs and nose as well as the pom pom on the top of the head out of mod rock and attach them. Once this was done I waited for it to fully dry before painting it. I was very happy with the outcome and whilst I found it a little difficult I had a lot of fun creating it.

Thursday 3rd December - Today was a less productive day as I didn't get much done. This is because I was Ill and was therefore unable to work.

Life after Lockdown!

Week 1 -

Wednesday 10th March - Today was the first day back after a long time of being in lockdown! It was great being back at college and it was an incredibly productive day. Today me and Amy began and finished all of the filming for the Silence in the wings backstage documentary. The first thing we filmed was with Hannah in the art room, we started outside of the art room and then moved in and done some more filming inside of the art room. I was nervous about filming but as soon as we got started I felt comfortable in what we were doing and had a lot of fun. After Hannah we completed several other filming sessions. My personal favourite was the costume scene. In this scene Ava was a shady costume girl who though she was better than us. So in the shot you see me step through the costume rail and say Avaaaa and you see her get very annoyed with us very quickly. This was My favourite scene however they were all great and everyone worked really hard!

Week 3 -

Wednesday 24th March - Today I had my Covid Vaccine and as a result was working from home. I managed to do some research in this time, which was really helpful for me.

Thursday 25th March - Today was a very basic and simple day. I attend one rehearsal in the morning and then a second after our first break with Lara. This was the first rehearsal I had been in. I found it extremely helpful to be able to attend a rehearsal, it allowed to to start slowly getting used to the process. I then wrote up the few notes I had afterwards and passed the relevant information to the relevant production team members. We then finished this day early, which allowed me to get home earlier and complete another piece of research.

Week 4 -

Tuesday 30th March - Today was my first full day in dance rehearsals, going forward I will now be attending college on a Tuesday in order to sit in the dance rehearsals all day. Today Liz attended with me so she could get an idea from a costume perspective of what she would need to be doing. I found this first full day extremely helpful. I was able to make lots of notes, and I saw so many of the dances which allowed me to note down all of the formations in order to give them to Dan, I was also able to retrieve a lot of the music which was then helpful for Lara who is creating a massive table of all the production elements. I really enjoyed being able to watch all of their dances as well, as I felt it helped give me a better understanding of what they are doing.

Wednesday 31st March Today was a massively productive day! I was working with Jamie, Harry and Dan all day as well as Tanith and Lara at times too. I have always said in the past I do not enjoy lighting as I Do not feel very confident in the subject. However today I really really enjoyed the work we was doing. I was a little unsure at first but once we got started I was having a lot of fun. We started of with cutting some gels for the side lights on the bars at the side of the stage. These colours were yellow and blue, cool and warm. This was both therapeutic and stressful! I loved the feeling of cutting it because it glided straight through however, it was stressful because we had to make sure it was on the line and straight to it slotted in correctly. After this we got the scaff tower out. I was going to be going up and adding the gels into the cyc lights however when I got up there with Tanith we both realised very quickly I wasn't tall enough! So that was a bit of a FAIL. SO once they finished doing that I went back up on the scaff tower in order to move the plug for the lights that angle onto the disco ball. We had to move it from the FOH bar onto bar 1. I enjoyed this as well it was like untangling a puzzle! Once this was done we did the same the other side. We then went through every light in the theatre and created an up to date channel list. So when a light come on we said what it was where it was, if it had a gel and if so what color. This again was fun but got a little boring after doing it for a while. The last thing we did that day was angle the side lights. I did not actually do this Jamie and Dan did whilst I very glamorously modelled up and down to check coverage. Overall it was a very fun and productive day that I really enjoyed. I was referred to as a 'lampy' by the end of it which made me feel very accomplished I must say!

Thursday 1st April - Today was another productive day. It started out with rehearsals and I managed to see the rest of the danced in this day which is always a good thing! We then had a production meeting in the afternoon which was also very useful. I created an agenda and the production meeting was a success. Later that day when I was home we sent out the notes to everyone so everyone from the meeting had a copy.

Week 5 -

Tuesday 20th April - After a long needed half term, we are back and doing great! Today I was observing in rehearsals all day for the dance show, this is what I will continue to do every Tuesday in the lead up to the show. I find sitting in rehearsals really help me. I feel like I gain a better understanding and therefore feel more prepared for what is to come. Overall, I managed to see several dances and make several useful notes for myself.

Thursday 22nd April - Today was a really enjoyable day. I started of this morning by completing a full track list to send over to Jamie, this meant sound was starting to progress too! After this I went to the workshop where I helped molly with the car for grease. I did a second coat of grey paint for her and then helped to paint the red on the other side. I found this very therapeutic and thoroughly enjoyed it! I then caught up with individual members of my team in the afternoon to catch up and see where we were at. They all seem to be on track and they didn't need anything from me!

Week 6 -

Tuesday 27th April - Today was another long day full of rehearsals. It is crazy to see the difference between they first started learning these dances to most of them now being complete. It was once again a very beneficial and helpful day for me.

Wednesday 28th April - Wow it has been a while since I have been in on a Wednesday! I really enjoyed being in today, we managed to get a lot done, we made an initial prototype for the poison bottles! As well as Amy cutting out the balcony, Me and Ty put up the other white curtains too! This was painful in the sense it was very tedious lowering each one so it sat exactly how it needed to in order for them all to look even. Other than this it was a pretty easy day!

Thursday 29th April - I absolutely loved today! I was helping with the balcony for most of the day today. Amy got the second coat on and soon as this was dry we attached it all together, They then decided they would quite like some shading around the pillars to give it some more definition, So we all did this as it was very time consuming! After this was done the vines were attached. When I say I helped I mean I pretty much stood there and held everything in place where it needed to be (it is what I am good at haha) In the afternoon we had a production meeting. We realised from this meeting that we are pretty much there! We have a few more small things that need to be sorted and then after that were nearly done! This made me feel a bit more confident!

Week 7 -

Tuesday 4th May - Today was yet another great rehearsal day, nearly all of the dances are finished and now everyone is polishing and cleaning their routines. It is so great to see all of their visons for the routine coming to life! I just know that this is going to be a great dance show and I am really excited! only three weeks to go now!

Wednesday 5th May - Today was very productive! I made a wall, a pink one. I started off attaching a panel of wood along the base structure someone else had already created, I then attached feet to either side, all with the help of Amy and Mel and Tony.

We then attached feet to the bottom  two on either side, we then painted the bottom wood pieces white to look like skirting boards, and the wall pink! Once this was done we put it under the lights in the theatre to be able to see if the wall was reading as pink. This is when we discovered that it in fact did not look pink! Back to the workshop we went! We made a new ink that was darker than the other by a lot! We then repainted it and it looked far better! Overall I really enjoyed today as I got to work with Amy and we had a very productive day!

Thursday 6th May - Today was what I called a tidy up day, sort out any last minute bits that needed doing etc. In the morning I spent pretty much the whole time ironing dresses! The jazz dresses for the dance show came folded in square bags, and as beautiful as the dresses are they were extremely creased up! So we needed to iron them all out, however they are not the best material to iron so me and Liz and Ava all had our work cut out for us! One of other the main things I did today was a Rydel High sign. Molly had used a piece of think cardboard the same stuff we used for our model boxes. She had then created an outline and painted it red, She then asked me when they all when home to do another coat then put it on the wall. What I didn't realise at the time was that she had used masking tape around the edges to give it a clean cut. However, because it was essentially thick cardboard when it came to me and Mel removing it it just ripped through the cardboard. This meant it was time to make a new one. So I went into the costume room and cut out a new triangle shape. Liz then helped me pencil the writing on. I then used a red sharpie to fill it in as I felt it would be quicker than having to paint it again. Once this was done I outlined it in black and we stuck it to the wall with PVA glue.

Week 8 -

Tuesday 11th May - Today I spent the day in rehearsals again, there are always benefits to being in rehearsals, but today was particularly helpful! In the afternoon we did a run through of the first half of the show. This meant that everyone was able to get an idea of the finished show, it also meant I got an idea of the spacing and time we have in between each dance. This was really important information for me to gather. It gives me an idea of what the quick changes might be like. This means I can start to figure out how many people to have on standby for assisting backstage and let them know. It also allows me to get a feel for how long I need to wait before calling the next cue. Overall today was extremely helpful for me. In the next rehearsals I would really like to see the second half, however I am not sure what Chloe's plan is yet.

Wednesday 12th May - Today was a great day, we were able to watch grease this morning! I thought everyone did a great job for this! After this we were on scrunchie duty! We set up a little production line and I was in charge of cutting out the initial material! I do enjoy cutting material, well the nice material that is, I find it very therapeutic! Once all of the material was cut I handed it over to Hannah and Katie who where making initial stitches. After that it was passed to Lara who thread the elastic through, then it went back to Hannah and Katie to put the final stitches in. Overall we worked really well as a team. We needed 15 scrunchies, but because there was enough to make 17 we decided that would be better as it would allow us to have some spares. This helps with my problem solving skills as I was able to let Chloe know that the people who needed both colours could have both colours as we made some spares.

Thursday 13th May - Today was a great day I spent most of the day in rehearsals again, however today we were able to go through the second half of the run through. It worked really well, and I cant wait to see the finished show because everything is really starting to come together now. Going through the second half meant that I understood the order. We had done run throughs before but never got through to the second half. So making it all of the way through meant I could look at any smaller elements I may have missed before. Additionally some of the formations for some of the dancers had changed after a dancer dropped out a few weeks back. I have seen most of the dancers so know all of the new formations, however there was some dances that were in the second half that I hadn't yet seen so this was extremely helpful in that sense. Next week is the week before show week I am really hoping to get cracking and get things done and sorted as soon as I can ready for The show. So my target for next week is to stay on top of things and stay organised!

Week 9 -

Tuesday 18th May - Today we had our first full dress run! I thought it went really well! Given that it was our first dress run I though it everyone did really well, there were a few different little bits we needed to sort out. However it was nothing major! The main key points that needed sorting on the costume side of things was some of the lyrical dresses needed a good iron. There were also a couple of dresses that needed taking up ever so slightly because dancers were having to keep pulling them up to prevent anything showing. From the sound point of view, we realsied we needed to add some fillers in because there were times where people couldn't get changed quickly enough to be able to get on stage, and then there was just a long pause of silence, so to keep things moving a bit better we decided to add in some filler music. Overall it was an extremely successful day. My target for Thursday as I am not in college, is to make any last minute changes to any of my documents ahead of Monday, as well as drafting out my own running order ready to insert the cues in on Monday.

Wednesday 19th May - Today was a day where we needed to sort out all the other little bits day. I needed to do some signs for the show after the half term two. These were reserved signs and I bashed them out in about an hour which was good. In the morning I was modelling for Louise, and then the afternoon I was supporting Ty.
