UNIT 12

For this unit I will be taking on the role of DSM for the show. The show we are going to be doing is Romeo and Juliet. I am very excited to take on this role and learn new skills and I cant wait to get stuck into it!

BLOG

WEEK 1 - This week I have completed my project proposal. I actually really enjoy doing a project proposal it gives me the ability to map out what I am going to do and how I am going to do it. Once this was completed I started with the videos. This week we watched a video on YouTube and an episode on Netflix. The video was about immersive theatre and I found it really interesting to look at the different techniques  that they use when designing set. I also think that they way they create the atmosphere like they do is very clever an it makes you feel although you are part of everything that is going on. The other thing we watched was an episode of abstract on Netflix. This particular one was about set design. There was a lot of elements that I found interesting. Whilst I am a DSM knowing about set design and other elements of theatre production is really important as you need to be able to oversee the work that is going on an provide assistance where needed.

THE FINISHED PRODUCT

After helping to paint/shade the edges, I was the resident holder upper for the balcony! This meant whilst they added all of the vines and stapled them down I held the balcony upright, Once this was done we took it into the theatre to be placed and secured back on the steel deck, this is when me and Amy added the fairy lights, Once this was done we turned the lights on and took some artsy photos as seen below.

PAINTING THE BALCONY

Believe it or not the intention was never to be doing what I was doing in the phot it was only by accident it occurred. When Mel was adding the final coats with Amy to the balcony, they realised there was some black in the brush meaning as she made a stroke it turned a greyish. Which they ended up liking. This when they decided they wanted to paint around the outline of the pillars, this is where I was asked to step in and help! I thoroughly enjoyed this however it took a bit of a long time!

LIGHTING AKA I'M A LAMPY NOW!

As I am sure you know by now, I am not a fan of lighting! However I spent the whole day on lighting duty, from untangling wires and re-jigging light placements to replacing gels. I actually really enjoyed it! The scaff tower is now my new bestfriend and I understand most of what is written on the board in the image below. I really did not think I was going to enjoy today but I honestly did. The reason we had so much to do was because the show grease was coming up so we had to get everything ready and prepped for that as the rest for the shows follow on a week by week basis!

RESERVED SIGNS

Today I was asked to make 6-8 reserved signs for the upcoming show two, I made 8 in total, I really enjoyed doing this at first, I got to use some of my creative skills and make them, However around sign number 6 My hand was getting tires, upon reflection I should have taken a break!
